Sunday Afternoon Chat with Kirsty and Steve and their adorable pack – Kiki, Dusty, Milo, Izzy and Pip.
At Happy Paws, many of the dogs we rescue have had no training at all when they first come under our care.
We have a Training Programme at the Centre that we are very proud of – we work with the dogs to teach them how to walk on the lead, sit, stay and “recall” and basic doggy manners.
We also have an excellent foster care process, so that our rescues become used to living in a loving family home before they arrive in the UK to start their lives with their forever families.
However, Kirsty and Steve have taken their rescue kid’s training much further!
Duncan has to be one of the worst cruelty cases Happy Paws has ever had to deal with - it was said if we had not rescued him he would of died within 48 hours!
Purdy was being beaten, abused and starved.
We got her away from her abuser and started her rehabilitation and just look at our girl now!
Albie was hit so hard that he was knocked out cold by some vile excuse for a human being, we think for begging for food.
We were asked to help and he received all the medical treatment he needed to recover.
Eddie was in a really bad way when he was rescued, but he received all the vet care and love he needed to recover from his ordeal.
Kizzy lived a really sad life - she lived outside on her own for many years.
Rory was rescued from a public pound and was very frightened and so confused about what was happening to him.
Theo was thrown out by a vile human being - lucky for him we took him under the Happy Paws umbrella - we are so glad we did
Maya’s rescue was a little different for us as she was owned and surrendered to us - if we had not stepped in to help she would have been put in a pound!
Ned was abandoned - he was starving and really struggling to survive - if we had not been able to get him to safety when we did we think he would have curled up and died!
Toby was abandoned on a very busy road - in fact he was nearly run over! Lucky for him a Happy Paws volunteer saw him and he jumped straight in to her car as if to say "get me out of here".
Hollie was left in a public pound and was suffering so much.
We got her out and she became a Happy Paws girl.
Fin was found wandering the streets - he had obviously been abandoned - his coat was in a terrible state, he was frightened and very confused.
These beautiful girls were unwanted and would have ended up in a public pound if we had not stepped in to help them.
They are the sweetest girls and we were desperate to keep them together.
Ellen was rescued from a public pound and was quite traumatised - we agreed to take her on and her sweet personality simply shone through.
Lily was in such a terrible state when we rescued her. We got her to safety and her Happy Paws journey began - she loved all the attention and kindness she was shown and she thrived in her foster home.
Phoebe was abandoned at a public pound and was so frightened - she is such a sweet girl so that awful experience was so overwhelming for her.
Bessie was rescued from a public pound and had some serious skin issues which had been left untreated for some time.
